Amy Potter – Sailing & Training Supervisor, Derwent Sailing Squadron

We are delighted to announce Amy Potter as our first speaker for the SheSails Conference 2026.

Amy is a Senior Dinghy Instructor and passionate sailor whose experience spans grassroots learn-to-sail programs through to competing as an athlete within the Australian Sailing Olympic Pathway. This experience has given her a strong understanding of the importance of creating accessible, supportive and clearly defined pathways into sailing.

In her current role at Derwent Sailing Squadron, Amy has led a range of participation initiatives designed to welcome new female sailors into the sport and strengthen ongoing engagement within the club.

Most recently, Amy oversaw the delivery of the Sail Our Way Grant at the Squadron, using the funding to deliver a series of heavily subsidised Start Crewing courses for women and girls. The courses sold out quickly, attracted strong interest from the local community and received positive feedback from participants both on and off the water.

Importantly, the program has also created pathways for participants to stay involved beyond their initial course. Many have since progressed into regular club racing through the Squadron’s SailTrain program or joined keelboat crews across the fleet.

Amy is particularly passionate about breaking down barriers to participation and creating welcoming pathways that make it easier for women and girls from all backgrounds to get involved in sailing.
