Girl Power on the NSW North Coast!

Published Wed 25 May 2022

This week we are pleased to share a great news story submitted by Principal and Instructor Derek Ridgley of Sailurunga about the very impressive progress and motivation of two of the young girls who have recently joined the Urunga Sail training Club and competed in their first regatta.

Tara is 11 and has only been sailing since October last year and Kaitlyn is 13 and has only been sailing on monos for about the same time (although she attends regular Cat regattas with her Dad).

Both Tara and Kaitlyn took part in the Coffs Harbour Sprint Regatta held April 23,24 which was their first regatta. They both only had 3 hours sailing time this year due to floods and practicing in predominantly flat water so for them to launch into the surf with an onshore breeze of up to 15knots then a swell of 1.5 to 2 metres and have their first crack at racing was brilliant. They managed to participate in two of the open class races!

Both girls are keen to continue their path in sailing so much so that both will be doing the Assistant Dinghy Instructor course at the end of this month.

Keep up the great work girls and keep these good news stories coming!
