About the project
Belmont 16ft Sailing Club delivered its Sail Our Way Event on 31 May 2026, bringing together women from across the sailing community for an afternoon of guest speakers, panel discussions, and information sharing designed to showcase the many pathways available within the sport.
The event welcomed 60 participants and featured a keynote speaker alongside a panel of five women representing a diverse range of sailing backgrounds and experiences. Through personal stories and discussion, the speakers shared their individual journeys within sailing, highlighting the many ways women and girls can become involved in the sport.
Information on sailing classes and participation pathways was also available throughout the event, giving attendees the opportunity to learn more about the programs offered by Belmont 16ft Sailing Club and explore ways to continue or begin their own sailing journey.
Outcomes and impact
- Raised awareness of sailing pathways: Participants gained a greater understanding of the many opportunities available for women and girls within sailing.
- Celebrated women in sailing: The event recognised and celebrated the contributions of women to the sport, creating a dedicated space to acknowledge and promote female participation.
- Created opportunities to connect: The event brought women together to share experiences, connect with other sailors and club members, and learn more about the opportunities available at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club.
How the funding helped
The Sail Our Way grant supported the delivery of the event by funding an experienced MC to facilitate the keynote presentation and panel discussion, as well as providing refreshments for participants.
By helping cover key event costs, the funding enabled Belmont 16ft Sailing Club to deliver a welcoming event that encouraged conversation and increased awareness of the opportunities available for women and girls in sailing.
